Drive-Thru Testing

The City of San Antonio, Bexar County, and the South Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) operate a testing site for COVID-19 at Freeman Coliseum. An appointment is required. Complete the self-screening tool or call 210.233.5970 to register or register online.

FAQs

The cost for testing should be covered by most insurance plans or through government-sponsored programs.

  • For private pay patients, please contact your health care provider for cost to administer a COVID-19 test.
  • If you do not have insurance, you can receive a test at no cost through the City of San Antonio at Freeman Coliseum or at a Walk-In Testing Site.
  • Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis when commuting.

  • If you were tested because of an exposure to someone who is confirmed to have COVID-19: do not return to work until 14 days after the exposure. (You may have been negative on the day you were tested but could still be incubating)

  • If you were tested because of symptoms: wait to return to work until all of the following have been met:
    • 10 days after onset of symptoms;
    • Symptom improvement; and,
    • 72 hours fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
    If applicable, notify your supervisor and note the day of testing.

  • If you are not experiencing symptoms: follow recommendations to protect yourself. If you are a healthcare facility worker or first responder, request guidance from your supervisor on any potential work and patient care restrictions until you know your test results.

  • The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is unable to provide individual letters that prove an individual was tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results. Many individuals are receiving testing through the drive-thru testing center, which is not operated by Metro Health. Metro Health is notified only after tests are processed, and only if results are positive. Individuals may download and share this Letter to Employers from Metro Health with their employer, if needed

If you are tested at the Freeman Coliseum, the Texas MedClinic Drive-Thru site, or at a Walk-Up Testing Site hosted by Metro Health, STRAC will call you within 48-72 hours with your test results if your test result is positive. The call will be from a private number and three attempts will be made to reach you. You will receive a text message if your result is negative. The text message notification of a negative result will include a link to download a form that states the result is negative. This is a temporary link so download the form as soon as possible and save it for your records.

 

If you have not received your results within 72 hours, you can email callcenter@txemtf.org and provide your name and date of birth and your results will be emailed to you.

 

If you are tested at a private clinic or by your doctor, they will provide you with results. Results are not available from the COVID Hotline or through the Testing Hotline.

Tests Positive

If you or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, follow isolation and quarantine measures to minimize spread to others. If a member of a household tests positive, other members of the household should self-quarantine until 14 days after the person has recovered, and should consider themselves positive if they develop symptoms. They should also follow the isolation and quarantine measures found on the CDC website. Anyone who tests positive or is in contact with someone who tested positive should NOT go to work.

 

Tests Negative

If your test for COVID-19 is negative and you do not have any symptoms, but someone in your household is positive, you should self-quarantine until 14 days after they have fully recovered. This is true unless you have no contact with the sick household member. However, like all residents of San Antonio and Bexar County, you must adhere to the Emergency Declaration No. 6 announced by Mayor Ron Nirenberg and County Judge Nelson Wolff on April 29,2020 . You should stay at home and only leave your home to take care of your basic needs, such as food, healthcare, and exercise. Even if you don’t feel sick, it’s still important to practice good hand hygiene and social distancing.
